Strategic Intervention | Thermo-Shelter

Exploring possibilities for transitional shelters.

The Thermo-Shelter Project was undertaken by UX Architects as an exploratory project to provide emergency and thermally efficient, lightweight shelters to some of the most vulnerable people.

Portable: Easy to install using recycled insulation panels that slot together and packs into a backpack.

Warm: The insulation reduces heat loss and body heat warms the shelter envelope to 10 degrees warmer than the outside temperature.

Dry: The waterproof membrane keeps the shelter dry and is raised off the ground to prevent rising damp.

At this point in time, the Thermo-Shelter is still in prototyping stages, but we are hoping to develop the design further to deploy in refugee camps in Europe.
